Why is Fibre so important?

Supplement Geek Spotlight Hello everyone...today I am going to talk about fiber. We all need it to keep things flowing in the right direction. As an average person, we need around 30 grams of fiber a day. If you are eating low carbs or a Keto diet, the requirements may be higher. There are two types of fiber: Insoluble-This type of fiber is valuable to our digestive tract and doesn't dissolve in water. Insoluble is not broken down by the gut. It adds bulk to waste in the digestive system. This helps keep you regular and prevent constipation (Happy ). Good sources of insoluble fiber would be; wheat bran, vegetables and whole grains. Soluble-When placed in water is will absorb it quite quickly and turn almost gelatinous in texture. This type will soften you stool so it can slide through the GI tract easier (Very Happy ). The unique part about soluble fiber is that it binds to cholesterol and sugar, preventing or slowing their absorption into the blood. This is why it is known for regulating blood sugar. Soluble fiber is also crucial in keeping your gut bacteria healthy. Fiber is a good food source for your gut bacteria. Good sources of soluble fiber would be; oat bran, barley, nuts, and the most know is psyllium. Fiber is incredibly important and should be part of your daily routine, either in your diet or through supplementation. Cheers!
