Collagen Information

Supplement Geek Spotlight Hello everyone! Today I have the pleasure of talking about collagen. What is collagen? Collagen is an important protein that can be found throughout the body. It is found in all connective tissues in your body ranging from your skin and bones, all the way down to your organs and blood vessels. Skin:- Collagen makes up 80% of the dry weight of your skin. Collagen provides structure to the skin, and works with Elastin to allow skin the flexibility it needs to stretch and return to its original state as your body moves. Bone:- Bone is made up of a mixture of collagen and hydroxyapatite. The two work together to form the structure, flexibility and strength of our bones. Muscles: - Collagen fibers provide your muscles with the strength and structure needed to move and function throughout the day. Collagen fibers not only make up your skeletal muscle fibers, but they also make up your smooth muscles ( i.e. organs) and cardiac muscles. Blood Vessels:- Collagen makes up the walls of the veins, arteries, and capillaries. This gives the vessels strength, structure, and flexibility.Joints:- Collagen plays and important role in building joint cartilage. Collagen is vital to our existence... the downside is that it depletes as we age. The most obvious characteristic of collagen depletion is wrinkles. Supplementing with collagen is no way a cure-all. You can't replenish your depleted collagen fully. You can only slow down that natural progression slowly. I have experimented with collagen before. I gave it a 3 month run and I noticed two things.1) My joints were free of pain but I don't suffer from severe pain either.2) I felt overall that my recovery was improved. I also have my 93 year old Grandmother using collagen for her sore muscles and joints. She notices slight differences.Hopefully, you learned about the importance of collagen in our bodies. Cheers!
